Why I'm going to kenya
I am going to Kenya ,as you may have already guessed, to help build a school, desks, water tanks, kitchens and elephant watering holes.
The reason I want to go on this trip is because without a school these children would be learning in dangerous environments or not learning at all. I am also building desks so the children have something to work on which isn't the floor. Another thing we will be building is water tanks because without this the children would be drinking dirty and unhealthy water which leads to illness and sickness. One more thing we will be building is kitchens so children get at least 1 meal a day. I will be assisting with wildlife conservation programmes at camp Tsavo and Mwaluganje Elephant sanctuaries.
About Kenya
Kenya is regarded by many as the jewel of East Africa and has some of the continent’s finest beaches, most magnificent wildlife and scenery and warm and welcoming people. It is a country of rich contrasts; from vast open savannahs rich with game, to pristine beaches and coral reef, equatorial rainforests and mighty snow-capped mountains, deserts and cool highland retreats. Kenya has a diverse population with around 40 different ethnic groups, all with their own language and cultures, the most famous being the tall, red-robed Masai who still lead semi-nomadic lifestyles of cattle herding along the southern border. The Swahili, which is a mix of African and Asian culture can be found along the coast. Swahili people traditionally became prosperous on the profits of commerce from the trade winds that carried ocean-going dhows (sailing boats) across the Indian Ocean to Arabia and Persia.
Communal Area
In rural Kenya, around 70% of people are living below the poverty line and access to proper sanitation,
clean drinking water, healthcare and an education are often limited or non-existent. During your expedition you will work on a number of our award-winning, ongoing projects designed to improve the living standards of local communities. Project work will vary hugely depending on the needs and priorities of each community at any given time. Much of our work focuses on trying to improve educational facilities for children as a way of trying to alleviate poverty. Project work could involve anything from low-level construction work, painting classrooms, building desks and constructing water tanks, to teaching pupils, playing sports and preparing meals for children, so it is important to remain flexible, enthusiastic and keep an open mind!

Benefits
This expedition will provide me with extraordinary opportunities. Life on this expedition will place me in situations that cannot be replicated in a classroom and this trip will also make me stand out in the eyes of future employers or college/university applications. Whilst travelling to an exciting part of the world I will be contributing to a very important and rewarding community, wildlife and environmental projects that are fun, memorable and exciting and it will give me unique opportunities to integrate with new cultures, speak new languages, gain a deeper understanding of other communities, make new and lasting friendships and improve my leadership and team-working skills. I will be taking on new challenges. It may only be for one month but it will be an experience that will last me a lifetime. I will also enhance key life skills that will assist me in further education, training or employment.
